Spring Peeper
Pseudacris crucifier
Spring Peepers live mostly on the eastern coast of the United States. Their mating call is a high toned pulse sound, much like a birds peep sound, hence the name. In the winter they hibernate, covering their bodies in mucus. Their blood is like anti freeze, so when they dig a burrow in the ground, and it gets very cold, their body temperature can sink down to the surrounding temperature without dying although, sometimes they do die. They have a brown to gray skin color, with a pattern of black/gray X(s) on their back. Mine is still young so Im not sure what it is, but Im almost positive its a Spring Peeper. Females are larger than males as usual, sometimes reaching two inches in length, while the male averages at tops of 1.5 inches.
The same tank settings for the Whites Dumpy Tree Frog apply here, with the exception of hibernation. Some people feel the need to simulate winter for these frogs as winter in the U.S. is very cold. There are hibernation supplies you can get a local pet store, but I dont know much about it except not to let the temperature get too low, below 20°F I would assume could be fatal.
Same things apply for mating, only males can perform a mating call.
